In May 2026, Ukraine’s Integrated Border Management System continued to transform amid rising passenger numbers and growing security concerns. A total of 2.7 million people crossed the western borders – 0.3 million more than in April. On average, more than 22,000 border crossings were recorded daily along the Polish border. This led to a greater emphasis on optimising procedures, improving coordination and implementing digital tools.

The focus remained on new control formats, such as biometric identification, risk-based control and pre-declaration. The State Customs Service’s online services are being actively developed, particularly as part of the ‘paperless customs’ programme. In May, customs revenues totalled 61.7 billion UAH, while the number of detected violations rose to 1,440 cases, amounting to 1.7 billion UAH.

The development of border infrastructure continues with the support of international partners. Work is ongoing at the “Porubne–Siret” and “Uzhhorod–Vyshne Nemetske” border crossings, as well as on access roads within the framework of the CEF. At the same time, the network of checkpoints equipped with modular solutions is expanding. Logistics along the Danube route also increased in May, with over 2.4 million metric tons of cargo – nearly 40% of total exports by sea – being shipped specifically through Danube ports.
